Walking, mountaineering, cycling or the well earned rest are easy to reach goals at this privilege place. Both the fauna and the flora are very rich. The tree par excellence is the beech tree that lives together with the holy tree, yew tree, oak tree, chestnut tree and the hazelnut. Among the fauna you will be able to see chamois, deer, otter, wild cat and with a little luck even wolf. The dense forests of the national park Redes is also home to the brown bear, a native species on the rise. In autumn, more or less from the middle of September until the beginning of October, the rut, mating season of the deer, takes place. The harsh sound of the buck grunt can be heard all over the place and you will be able find a good hide to witness this sonorous and visual spectacle at sunrise and sunset at a short walking distance of the village.

Campiellos is a small village build up by traditional houses with their corridors and galleries, stables, granaries and a hermitage. It is situated on the southern part of the mountain and has the benefit of enjoying the sun all day long and has great views on the valley, the lake of Rioseco and the surrounding mountains emphasized by the Cuyargallos and Retriñón peaks.

Rioseco is the capital of the council of Sobrescobio. The Torrexón de Villamorey, a medieval defending tower (that can be reached easily by a walking track) and the dam (with a bird observatory) are the village scenic highlights. Worth to mention is La Casa del Agua, where the visitors are able to experiment and learn about the processes related to the Water cycle.

Other ethnographic museums that are worth being visited are the Museo de la Madera in Campo de Caso (wooden shoes), the Casa Natal de Armando Palacio Valdés in Laviana (one of the most popular 19th-century Spanish novelists) and of course the Museo de la Minería in El Entrego and the impressive Museo de la Siderurgia in La Felguera, both showing the industrial heritage of the Coal Mine Valley.

Do not rule out the possibility of visiting the major cities of the region, Oviedo and Gijón, and their cultural highlights, as they are reached in less than an hour driving from the apartments La Xamoca. Also the beautiful sand beaches of the Cantabrian Sea can be reached easily by road.
